One way you can tell a traditional Hutsul Pysanka pattern from recreated ones is that Hutsul Pysanka colors are usually - white, yellow, green, red and black with lots of the yellow cross-hatching that Hutsul eggs are well known for.
A less common type is the Icon Pysanka. The wooden eggs used are usually much larger, and are commonly displayed on small stands.
Hutsul Pysanky presented here are produced in Western Ukraine by folk artisans living in the Carpathian Mountains, who do farming in the summer time and use their wood crafting talents during the winter to earn money for their family's survival.
